I’m so happy! It’s September which means it’s the most magical time of the year, that’s right the new TV season is upon us!
There are a ton of new shows starting and I have pulled out the ones that I think nerds out there might like, and a few that I’m digging as well. It’s not all about you nerds!!!
FULL DISCLOSURE: I’m kinda a show curse, if I really like a show it’s pretty likely it will be cancelled, i.e. Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies, Best Friends Forever (the list goes on), so view at your own risk!
666 PARK AVENUE (ABC): Watch trailer below
PREMIERE DATE: Sept. 30
WHEN: Sundays at 10 pm
WHO: Terry O’Quinn (Lost), Vanessa Williams (Desperate Housewives), Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters), Mercedes Masohn (The Finder), Robert Buckley (One Tree Hill), Rachael Taylor (Grey’s Anatomy)
WHAT: The show is set in an historic New York City apartment building (owned by marrieds played by O’Quinn and Williams) and centers on a young couple (Annable, Taylor) who become its managers. From the trailer it appears that there is more to this hotel than meets the eye and there are evil doings afoot.
WHY: As much as I love Terry O’Quinn I probably will not be watching 666 Park Avenue, but that’s pretty much just because I don’t really do scary movies/shows. I am highlighting it because of the supernatural elements. I mean you can’t go wrong with Terry O’Quinn + a mystery, right?
ARROW (THE CW): Watch trailer below
PREMIERE DATE: Oct. 10
WHEN: Wednesdays at 8 pm
WHO: Stephen Amell (Hung), Katie Cassidy (Gossip Girl), Susanna Thompson (Once & Again), Willa Holland (The OC), Paul Blackthorne (The River), Colin Donnell (Pan Am)
WHAT: A modern retelling of the story of DC Comics character Green Arrow.
WHY: I think that’s pretty obvious, this show is based on a comic book character, can’t get more nerdy than that, but even better it combines two elements I’m interested in, nerdy things and a CW show filled with angst. Plus I think it looks good. And an even bigger plus ladies, Stephen Amell (Arrow) is dreamy. Saw him close up at Comic-Con, SWOON!
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (THE CW): Watch trailer below
PREMIERE DATE: Oct. 11
WHEN: Thursdays at 9 pm
WHO: Jay Ryan (Terra Nova), Kristin Kreuk (Smallville), Austin Basis (Life Unexpected)
WHAT: Loosely based on the 1980s CBS series starring Linda Hamilton, this drama is a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist.
WHY: Definitely remember watching the 1980s version of Beauty and the Beast so I’m excited that The CW has decided to reboot the series with a different twist. I feel like the Smallville veteran, Kristin Kreuk, the supernatural Beauty and the Beast story and the angst (there’s that word again) combination gives this show a good chance of attracting nerds. Plus it has a powerhouse lead-in with The Vampire Diaries.
ELEMENTARY (CBS): Watch trailer below
PREMIERE DATE: Sept. 27
WHEN: Thursdays at 10 pm
WHO: Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone), Lucy Liu (Southland), Aidan Quinn (Prime Suspect)
WHAT: Modern take on the cases of the pipe-smoking private eye with Sherlock (Miller) now living in NYC. Liu plays Watson.
WHY: Doesn’t everyone love some Sherlock Holmes action? I know some of you are probably wary of this re-imagining of the classic Sherlock story especially with the very entertaining BBC Version entering into it’s 3rd series, but I think there is more than enough room for more than one retelling, and so does Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch. Plus I love Johnny Lee Miller from Eli Stone, so I will definitely be checking it out.
That’s it for Part 1 of the Fall 2012 Nerd Show Preview, stay tuned for Part 2 tomorrow…
