Nerd Alert! New Fall Shows 2012: Part 2

It’s time for Part 2 of the New Fall Shows 2012 Preview: Nerd Style. Yesterday we talked about 666 Park Avenue, Arrow, Beauty and the Beast and Elementary.

Today we are rounding out the nerdy show preview along with a few shows that I’m excited about.

REVOLUTION (NBC): Watch trailer below
PREMIERE DATE: Sept. 17
WHEN: Mondays at 10 pm

WHO: David Lyons (The Cape), Billy Burke (24), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Tim Guinee (The Good Wife), Tracy Spiradakos (Being Human), Zak Orth (Nurse Jackie), Andrea Roth (Rescue Me) and JD Pardo (Drive)

WHAT: A high-octane action drama that follows a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.

WHY: Executive producer J.J. Abrams, who know that guy who brought us Lost, Fringe, Alias, Super 8, Star Trek (reboot), Cloverfield, etc. plus Jon Favreau direction the pilot episode. After all that the show definitely has a Lost-esque feel, which after the ending of Lost many of you might not want. I have seen the pilot episode and I am intrigued so my DVR will be filled with at least a few more episodes to see how it plays out.

BONUS: Watch the pilot episode on Hulu now: http://www.hulu.com/watch/397518

Ok now for some shows that the “normal” girls out there might enjoy, and maybe the nerds can just get on board with it.

THE MINDY PROJECT (FOX): Watch trailer below
PREMIERE DATE: Sept. 25
WHEN: Tuesdays at 9:30 pm

WHO: Mindy Kaling (The Office), Chris Messina (Damages), Anna Camp (The Good Wife)

WHAT: A Bridget Jones-type OB/GYN (played by Kaling) tries to navigate both her personal and professional lives, surrounded by quirky co-workers in a small office.

WHY: This is kinda a mix of a show that is nerdy but I’m slightly interested in. Created by Mindy Kaling, The Mindy Project, definitely appears to have the same witty style that she brought to her previous gig at The Office. I like the idea that Mindy is this mixed up girl who has messed up view of love and romance because of endless viewing of romantic comedies (which I think is a problem for a lot of girls). Plus she’s just a girl who doesn’t quite have it all figured out yet, which is very indicative of society these days. I have watched the pilot and will probably give it a few more episodes to 100% win me over.

BONUS: Watch the pilot on Hulu now: http://www.hulu.com/watch/394815

THE NEW NORMAL (FOX): Watch trailer below
PREMIERE DATE: Sept. 11 (tonight!)
WHEN: Tuesdays at 9:30 pm

WHO: Ellen Barkin (The Normal Heart), Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon), Georgia King (Little Dorrit), Justin Bartha (The Hangover), NeNe Leakes (The Real Housewives of Atlanta)

WHAT: A heartwarming comedy about a blended family of a gay couple and the woman who becomes a surrogate to help them start a family.

WHY: Alright I admit this show is in no way nerdy, but I don’t care, because I’m excited about it. I love that Ryan Murphy is show versatile in the shows that he creates, but I admit his comedies are more my style. I have seen the pilot and am enjoying it so far, and it definitely plays on the fact that these days a traditional family hardly exists anymore.

BONUS: Watch the pilot on Hulu now: http://www.hulu.com/watch/395910

PARTNERS (CBS): Watch trailer below
PREMIERE DATE: Sept. 24
WHEN: Mondays at 8:30 pm

WHO: Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), David Krumholtz (Numb3rs), Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill), Brandon Routh (Chuck), Elizabeth Regen, Lucy Davis (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip)

WHAT: Architects Charlie and Louis’ (Krumholtz and Urie) friendship has lasted longer than either of their romantic relationships and almost seems like a weird marriage. When Charlie decides to propose to his girlfriend (Bush), Louis’ neurotic attempts to be supportive nearly result in the breakup of his own relationship. Routh plays Louis’ boyfriend.

WHY: This is another one of my picks, but hey it does have Superman in it, so that counts for something, right? Maybe this will just be another cheesy laugh track comedy but I don’t care, the trailer makes me laugh and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Michael Urie from Ugly Betty and will pretty much watch anything with him in it. And also they are playing with LEGO bricks at the beginning of this trailer so….

There you have it, our recommendations for the shows you and your nerds should be watching this Fall. Also don’t forget about those returning nerdy shows (I’ve included links to promo videos/photos for the new season):
