It’s official! Star Wars VII is happening! Alright, I admit that’s old news but what makes it legit is that this movie now has a screenwriter. Starwars.com has officially confirmed that Michael Arndt will be the lucky bastard to pen the next Star Wars movie.
Here’s the official statement:
“As pre-production of Star Wars: Episode VII begins, Lucasfilm has confirmed that award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay for the new Star Wars film. As revealed in the ongoing video series posted here on StarWars.com, Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas have begun story conferences with Arndt. Arndt won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for writing Little Miss Sunshine (2006), and was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for writing Toy Story 3 (2010).”
Along with the writing credits listed above, Arndt wrote the upcoming sequel to the Hunger Games, Catching Fire. We still have a while until the next Star Wars is released but I’m excited to see how Arndt handled Catching Fire, it will be very telling on how he handles the biggest franchise in history…no pressure.
