Difficult People: A Seinfeld for the Next Generation

I’m 3 episodes in to the new Amy Poehler produced Hulu original show and I have to say I’m loving it! I think one of the reasons is that it’s seriously channeling Seinfeld….it’s all about terrible people that you can’t help but like. Plus the things they do ALWAYS come back to bite them in the ass.

In a nutshell the two protagonists Billy and Julie are aspiring comedians, and in their everyday lives, say the things that we are all probably thinking (DON’T LIE!)….for example in the pilot they go to a matinee in Annie and two things happen….

  1. The understudy is performing…”You know what an understudy is….understudy is a fancy word for disappointment.”
  2. Children come and sit in front of them (which is already UGH)…but the mother turns around and asks them to watch their language. Most people would probably apologize and try to stop swearing…but what do they do….refuse and basically tell her that they paid to be there and they can speak however they want. It’s AWESOME!

And I died laughing when they are openly flummoxed by someone who has named their children, Memphis and Maverick and when they commented on what would happen if Giuliana Rancic and Maria Menounos met on the red carpet.

Plus they are coming up with gems like this when discussing people they are dating……..”He’s a participator!”…if that’s not a Seinfeld thing to say then I don’t know what is.

But don’t misunderstand me the show totally has it’s own personality, I find it hilarious and can’t wait to see what the next episode has in store.

Take a sneak peek below and of course watch on Hulu.
